Coldean Community Organisation (CCOrg) is a not-for-profit community group.
CCOrg was set up initially to look to do a community-led housing project - see Our History.
Its legal model is a Community Benefit Society, answerable to the Financial Conduct Authority and its members and its aims include protecting assets in common ownership and in perpetuity.
This made us well placed to take on the Coldean Community Corner and Youth Club buildings. We are doing community engagement and outreach so we can develop the projects collaboratively, as a community.
CCOrg is overseen by a board of directors who get voted in each year. Anyone that has done some voluntary work with CCOrg, to understand how it works on the ground, can become a director.
At the heart of our organisation is a deep sense of social inclusion, co-operation, environmental sensitivity, the health and well-being of our community, and the determination to provide local people with a voice in the development (or not), of their neighbourhood.
We invite all local residents to be involved in the running of the organisation - to empower them whilst also creating a healthy, robust and skilled community group. We work with the Trust for Developing Communities to look to improve our community engagement, in order to continuously improve our inclusivity and diversity.
